Let's get started.
I'm James Henderson, an Art Director with 12 years of experience crafting strategic, impactful design across digital, print, and motion.
My background spans agency, in-house, and government work, giving me a well-rounded approach to creative problem solving. At my current position at Dentsu Creative, I am an Art Director and have worked on great evergreen and promotional campaigns for major national brands, including Burger King, where I’ve created app creative, homepages, and Royal Perks loyalty program emails. I also spent five years shaping SoFi Bank’s brand across direct mail, lifecycle emails, social content, and performance-driven paid media.

Prior to agency life, I spent four years as the lead designer for the award-winning in-house marketing team at Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort, home to the Arkansas Derby of the Triple Crown horse racing series. There, I helped define and elevate the brand through the rapid growth of multiple expansions of the facility, launched restaurants from logo to menus and food photography, as well as designed seasonal campaigns, print advertising, digital media, and on-property signage and videos.

Prior to that position, I worked on government contracts designing fighter jet training materials—translating highly technical content into clear, visual learning tools. It required an absolute 100% accuracy to creative and taught me the organization skills needed for that level of attention.
I started my career at Watkins Company Printing right out of college, where I learned the production side of design from the ground up, and developed an appreciation for precision and press-ready detail, streamlining the time between creation and production in print materials.

I’m fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects), with strong experience in Figma and Adobe XD for responsive design, prototyping, and team collaboration. I also work with great project management tools like Workfront, Jira, and Workday to keep projects organized, on track, and aligned with business goals. In November 2024, I was recognized as Employee of the Month—an honor that reflects my dedication, consistency, and team-first mindset.

When I’m not designing, I’m exploring the Colorado outdoors, offroading, hiking, riding my motorcycle, or adventuring with my dog Arlo (who inspired the name of this site). I am grateful to work in a field where we get to make a living creating, and love that I can bring the same sense of curiosity, energy, and attention to detail to my creative work that I do to every ride or trail.
